2008 March : Bueng Chawaak

PREFACE

We first visited Bueng Chawaak in April 2004.
The place used to be just a lonely lake with the name of Chawaak amidst the paddy fields.
Now there is an aquarium and crocodile farm, with other attractions.

Almost 4 years later, in March 2008 we revisited the place with my parents.
Although Dad and Mom used to live in Thailand for decades before they moved to America, they had never known of Bueng Chawaak in Supanburi Province.

And I am posting this travelogue for the first time 11 years after the trip.

So... this is the formal spelling of the name in English. Haha! Never got it right....

Please allow me to stick to my style of spelling. 4.gif 16.gif vicious.jpg 5.gif

The Aquarium

Compare the first three photos below with those we took in 2004 and we can see that the boys are taller now.

Outside:

Chao Kuay Stall

This was the stall where we first discovered the most delicious grass jelly or chao kuay.

Great to revisit!

The name of the brand was Cha-kang-rao. It is in Kampaeng-pet province, a place further north. Strange, in our trip to this place in 2004 we did not take any photos of the stall. In the photo above, there is a basket of dried chao kuay grass on the counter. The sign in front of the refrigerator says "Chao Kuay 10 Baht". Tony is holding bags of grass jelly in syrup. In 2008 it was still difficult to find this delicious brand in our neighborhood. These days Cha-kang-rao's Chao Kuay is available in many shops.

(More about it : please see the blog I posted quite many years ago.)

Update :

In Dec 2019 I searched and found a good travel blog of Bueng Chawaak.
It was posted in 2018, and with many great photos.

To compare with what it was when we visited in 2004 and 2008, the place now has more attractions, with a longer tunnel displaying the sharks, the fishes, and etc., and a full-scale zoo.
The entrance fee in 2018 was still 30 Baht per person, but the entrance fee to the new shark tunnel was 150 Baht per person.
